NGULIA HILLS
Arabuko Sokoke Forest

Highlights: This is a tour which takes you to the Arabuko Sokoke forest near Watamu which is one of the remaining untouched natural forests in Kenya followed by Kakamega Forest in Western Kenya. It has the biggest bird life. The community around is today involved with one of the best butterfly farming projects within this forest.
This forest covers an area of over 400 square kilometers, it is the last large piece of indigenous coastal forest left in Kenya followed by Kakamega Forest in Western Kenya.. It is a key site for the global survival of six bird species and three mammal species.
The Arabuko-Sokoke Forest Guides Association has several expert guides who can accompany you on your forest walks. They are expert ornithologists and can help visitors find and see some of the rare and unique birds of the forest. Over 260 species of birds have been recorded in the forest including the six globally threatened ones:
Many of these are found and observed regularly by visitors. For those less keen on "twitching" and ornithology the forest is also lovely for a walk, and exciting too, considering there is a resident herd of elephant and buffalo!
Optional at Extra Cost; proceed to Gede ruins, lunch in Malindi and visit Vasco da Gamma pillar before you depart for Mombasa. Dinner and overnight at your hotel in Mombasa.

BIRD SANCTUARY TOUR

Allocated in Watamu, save for a gentle curve as the road skirts the fascinating sanctuary of Mida Creek .The creek is a broad expanse of tidal mudflats surrounded by a belt of mangroves where three species of the eye-catching Bee-eater family enliven the dense green. The creek attracts a vast number of migrating waders; little stints, greenshanks, whimbrels, curlews, terek sandpipers and many more dressed in their breeding plumage. Besides the migrants there are numerous resident birds of special interest like the crab plover, sooty gulls and osprey.
